“Sometimes we feel that the treasure we are looking for is behind a certain door and if we can just get the key to that door then we will be able to retrieve our treasure and be happy ever after. I had a dream one night of being in a circular room with many doors. In my dream I knew that there was a huge treasure hidden behind one of the doors. So I ran up to the door and tried to open it, but it was locked firmly. It would not budge. I tried putting all my weight against it in the hopes of breaking it down – but nothing happened. I kept trying and after a while I was so tired that I sat dejected – my back against the door. Then I heard a voice in my head, it said “why not try the other doors and see what’s behind them”.

I didn’t really feel that it would be of benefit to me, since I was positive that the treasure that I wanted was behind the one door, but I had nothing to lose at this point so I tried another door, it opened easily. To my disappointment there was nothing behind it, just a passage leading into the darkness.
This is what happens to us in life. We think we want something, and we make up our minds as to how it will come. In that process we forget that we cannot see the complete field of possibilities, and that we are much better letting the Universe decide the path of least resistance and least number of obstacles for us.
Let me explain again with Charlie’s help.
Then I tried another door and found that it too led into the same passage, and the next and the next and the next – all the doors led into the same passage. Reluctantly I stepped into the passage to see where it led. I walked only a few paces when I saw a golden light. I ran towards the light, and found that it was coming from the treasure that I was looking for! That passage connected all the doors at the back and led me to the very treasure that I was working so hard to get. If I had only stopped working so hard on beating down that one door and allowed myself to go through anyone of the other doors, they would have led me to my treasure much faster and I would not have suffered the frustration and disappointment I had felt in trying unsuccessfully to beat down that one door.
Let’s say that Charlie is dreaming of a certain person as his life partner. Every time he sees this person he feels the power of his wanting. But they don’t want to have anything to do with him. Charlie feels that this is the only person in the world who is the perfect answer to all his dreams about what a life partner should be. He feels that he will never be happy until he wins the affection of this one person. So Charlie starts working hard on getting this person’s attention. He tries to make himself available for all events he knows his beloved may be attending. He goes out of his way to dress and act in a way that might attract his beloved’s attention – but to no avail. In doing so Charlie is behaving very much like I did in my dream.
After trying for over an year, Charlie finally gives up. He is disappointed and dejected, and can’t understand what is wrong. After a while, Charlie’s friends encourage him to start dating other people. He doesn’t want to because he doesn’t think anyone will ever come up to the same standard, but still he starts going out again. One day many months later, when he was least expecting it, he bumps into his beloved again. This time everything is different. His beloved is much friendlier towards him and they hit it off like they never did before.
Haven’t you heard of similar stories where people stopped struggling to get the one thing they thought would make them deliriously happy and then they got the very thing? The one area where I have heard of this sort of thing again and again is with couples who are trying to have a baby. They try and try and try and nothing happens, then they stop trying or they adopt, and the next thing you know they are pregnant!
I’ve seen people fuss over finding a job, turning away from work that is right there in front of them while they wait for the perfect job to show up – and they keep waiting for a very long time. Finally they give up, and take whatever is there only to find that it leads to exactly what they wanted and better.
Sometimes the path we think we want to take is fraught with difficulties – it is not the path of ease and flow. Source keeps calling us to another path but we don’t go, because we think it’s a lesser option, and yet it is probably a path that has the ability to lead us to the things we want with far less effort than the path of our own choosing.
Is there something in your life that you have been wanting for a very long time? Try giving up on it. Try to let go and allow the Universe to lead you to whatever is the easiest path to follow and watch how quickly things will turn around. Just focus on the end result you want and what it will feel like to achieve that goal.”
