I had an aha moment, and it dawned upon me that I did not have to appreciate myself, all I had to do was to appreciate “something”. I realized that in order to feel worthy I had to feel the feeling of appreciation and that appreciation did not have to be directed towards me. I figured out that the purest appreciation I felt was for the trees and for nature in general. I found that it was easy to appreciate flowers and water and animals and birds. So that’s what I did. And when my attention strayed and went towards the bill that still needed to be paid, I told myself, “if I appreciate everything will get better, what can I appreciate in this moment?” and usually as I said these words, I looked out through my window and found something about nature to focus upon and appreciate.
As appreciation for nature started feeling easy, and became a habit, I started introducing appreciation about myself. Just little things that I knew to be true about the way I thought about me – I appreciated that my legs carried me, and my feet took me where I wanted to go. I appreciated that my eyes could see color and depth and shape. I appreciated how my food tasted, and how I enjoyed listening to music. I appreciated my sense of smell as I took in the yummy aroma of coffee in the morning and the food I cooked. In other words, I used my five senses to find simple little things to appreciate about me and my life. Do you have any idea how powerful it is just to appreciate tiny little things that seem unimportant, but they are not. They are important, because even though they may be small we can use them to create huge momentum – momentum that shifts the trajectory of our future unfolding. Try it. Try it and see how just in a few days you will start feeling your worthiness and then you will start knowing it. You will start knowing how blessed you are.
