New Year Goals and the Law of Attraction

I found out a long time ago that New Year’s resolutions don’t work.  I’ve seen many of my friends put out their new year’s resolutions only to be disappointed a few months later.  Hell, I’ve done that myself.  But then, I’ve also met people who declared their resolutions and achieved them.  It wasn’t until I started understanding the Law of Attraction that I began to understand why some people succeed and others don’t.  And I think that the end of one year and the beginning of another is an important time to take stock and do something different that makes us more successful and happy.  It’s the perfect time to leave the past behind and start fresh.

I’ve found that the biggest thing that gets in the way of manifesting is attachment to the goal.  All it means is wanting something so badly that you think that you need it – that it is essential to your joy, and not just your joy but your survival.
I’ve found that we generally prioritize on the basis of how essential we think something is.  Therefore, we attach priorities to our goals.
That sort of prioritization is a good thing because it helps us to focus our energy on the object of our desire – when we do that, we pull it towards us.  But it is also a bad thing, because the prioritization or need comes from a place of lack – the more we need something the more lack of it we feel – which pushes it away from us.  This paradox; this pulling things in two different directions is what generates the feeling of frustration and overwhelm.

It is important to understand the distinction between “need – goals” and “want goals”.  Need goals are the things we think are essential to our survival, while want goals are things, we want that we think will improve the level of joy we derive from life.

Need goals are limiting. Want goals are possibilities.
What are your "need" goals? Do you think you can shake them off today? All you have to do is to find a way to convince yourself that you don't really need the thing you think you need. The process of soothing is all about that.

We give priority to need goals and when we give them priority, we also give them power - that power limits us. When we downplay them, we take that power away - that gives us freedom. At the end of the day freedom is more important than anything else.

When you think about your goals for next year keep the distinction between “need” goals and “want” goals in mind. You can grab a copy of my workbook “Ready!” to guide you through a structured process for bringing in the new year based on the law of attraction.

Many Blessings for the Holidays and Happy New Year to All.
