Does praying from the bottom of your heart work?

One day many years ago I came upon my mother sobbing her heart out.  I have never forgotten that day. I hugged her and asked her what was wrong.  She said she had been praying and that was why she was crying.  I didn’t understand.  “Why is praying making you cry?” I asked her.  She said “because I am praying from the bottom of my heart”.  And then she said something that has been with me forever, it has been at the heart of my search for God.  She said, “all prayers are not the same, you have to pray so that God listens”.

At the time, I interpreted it to mean that you have to pray from the bottom of your heart.  But as I saw my mother’s life unfold, I knew that there was more to the mix.  She always prayed from the bottom of her heart; often she sobbed real hard but her life was tough and she was mostly a very unhappy person, and I knew that very few of her prayers were answered.  I could not understand it.
I thought that there was no one more deserving of joy than my mother and it perplexed me that it was so hard to convince God to respond to her pleas.  My mother engaged in vigils and I engaged in them with her, together we practiced many days of prayer and abstinence, trying to please God so that our prayers would be answered but mostly to no avail.  From all of it, I came away with a deep- seated knowing that my mother was right: “all prayers are not the same, you have to pray so that God listens”.

My quest came to an end when I understood God’s system for granting wishes.  Really, it is a very simple system.

The reason we don’t understand it is because it is not based on human logic, but on emotional logic.  We humans look for the logic in the way things happen, and so often we completely miss the point.
God does not respond to our logical arguments; God responds to our emotional frequency.  When we tune ourselves to the frequency of love, God responds and the doors of heaven open to release all that our hearts desire and more.  It’s as simple as that.  Logic complicates it, because we look around us at the complexity of nature and surmise that God’s system must be complicated.  We look around us at the scores of people living mundane unenjoyable lives and conclude that there must be something elusive in the mix that makes God answer prayers.  However, it is true:

All prayers are answered.

We just don’t know that we are praying – we think we are thinking, but all thoughts are prayers and God not only listens to each one, but also responds to each one. Which way does the scale fall? Do we appreciate more or do we complain more? It’s really as simple as that. When we keep asking for the same things over and over again, we are in effect complaining, and the vibration of complaining is not the same as the vibration of love.

Thank you very true. God is love. There are many examples in the Bible in the way of prayer and giving thanks and rejoicing that the thing prayed for is already given/done. The rest is faith.
